I started painting portraits professionally in college. Being able to get to know my subject has always been the reason I enjoy this process the most. Portraiture has remained a tradition for hundreds of years as a way to honor those we love, revere and remember.
Chicago is a beautiful city and the skyline is a one of a kind. I have a few paintings of the buildings that I love for their architectural style.
My favorite place in Chicago is the River. I have been looking at the river for the past 30 years on a daily basis. I love the reflection and how the buildings extend from the bank like mountains.
I have been painting pets as a subject since I was a kid. There's a lot of emotion in the face of a family pet.
“Love a Good Landscape” to capture a moment in time, a feeling, a day, or just a thought, to explore our relationship with nature.
The paintings of the gardens started with a family member and how proud she was with the look of the flowers. Not wanting the garden to die, and in place of bringing the flowers inside, I started to paint them.
Most of the following paintings are of Chicago’s landmarks that I have sketched over the years. There’s just something about an icon that is recognizable to everyone.
The first painting I did of birds was of the two cockatiels. Both of the birds were mine while I was in school, Samson and Delilah. The rest were commissions over the years.
I’ve had tortoises around the house and studio for the past 25 years. Most of the paintings are of my friends' animals; a few are of my own.
My oldest tortoise Mort has been with us from the beginning. He has been responsible for over 28 hatchlings. Some of which are seen below.
This is a natural transition from tortoises. I love the pattern of tortoise shells. Most of the following paintings depict my tortoises from years of sketching them in the yard.
Our original elf on the shelf. When we were kids, my mother used to hide the 6 elves to keep us busy before opening presents. We still hide them today for my family as well. Love the holidays.
The art of black and white. Negative space is as important as positive space...
Simplifying form by using shape, color and texture.
Most of my past work is total abstraction, however my favorites have a more structured use of abstract art which you can see within the first few images.
